Remember to Thank a Veteran

parker.gif

Today we remember the people who gave us the freedoms we all enjoy.. So I thought I would give you a brief history of why we Celebrate this day and it’s beginnings. Veterans Day as we know it first was known as Armistice Day back in 1918. Marking the end of World War I. It later would become Veterans Day as we now know it. A wreath is laid at the Tomb of The Unkown Soliders in Arlington Cemetary on this day of the 11th month , the 11th day at the 11th hour. The symbolism being WW I ended November 11 1918 with the last shot being fired at 11th hour of the day. Poppies which are worn on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.Why the “Red Poppies are worn, the symbol comes from a poem written by a Canadian doctor John M. McCrae in 1915.  The caualties of war were  laid to rest in “Flanders Field”

“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.”

So today remember those who gave us our fredoom and to those who contiune to do so around the World
